About Me
My name is Detty Lavin and I have worked in the field of mental health for over 10 years. I believe that providing a safe, nonthreatening environment is key to helping individuals address, work through and understand their problems. The psychodynamic approach stresses the importance of the unconscious mind and the client’s history. These two elements are key to working with most individuals. Visiting a client’s memories and current experiences will provide helpful information and hints to obstacles they face.
To achieve a healthy life style, I believe that an individual needs to feel connected with their mind, body and spirit. I take a holistic approach in counseling to enable my clients to see not only the problems that bring them to counseling but also their gifts and talents.
I have extensive training in trauma work, grief and loss, mood disorders, dream work, and pastoral concerns. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults. Art therapy, in various forms, inner child work and Emotional Freedom Technique can be utilized in session for deeper healing.
On a personal note, I have been married for 44 years, have 4 grown children and 2 grandchildren. I enjoy a daily yoga practice, reading, hiking, gardening, birding, art, and the Ravens and Orioles.
