“Who am I?” and “Where am I going?”

Using the Holland Occupational Codes (RIASEC) and Myers-Briggs "style" tests, your career counselor will assess your core personality characteristics as well as your strengths/weaknesses. From there, he/she will help identify the best possible career/life choices and as well as obstacles that may interfere with your success. They will help you find your occupational personality.

Holland Occupational Codes (RIASEC) refers to a theory of career and vocational choices that were initially developed by American Psychologist John L. Holland, Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University. Result options consist of six personality types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. Your personality type will assist your counselor in recommending options for college majors and career pathways.

Myers-Briggs is an introspective, self-report questionnaire designed to identify psychological preferences in how people perceive the world around them and how they make decisions. The questionnaire was developed from the work of Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and the founder of the school of analytical psychology. He developed the concepts of the extroverted and introverted personality, archetypes, and the collective unconscious. His personality test measures your preferences for dealing with and relating to people, processing information, making decisions, and organizing your life. We all have specific preferences in the way we construe our experiences, and these preferences underlie our interests, needs, values, and motivation. Using indicators such as Introvert vs. Extrovert, Intuition vs. Sensing, and Feeling vs. Thinking, the Myers-Briggs assessment  will help determine your dominant functions and allow you to make an informed analysis of which path is right for you. In addition to an overview of your personality, test results will help you determine if your personality and preferred style of working would be a good match with a potential employer’s requirements.
